Hernan has over 10 years’ experience of electrical sales, working for companies such as Standard Electric Company, American Copper and Brass, and Kendall Electric, based in Michigan. Hernan has recently relocated to Central Pennsylvania, and we could not be more excited! When Hernan is not working, he likes to golf, play soccer, watch Steelers Football, and hangout the family. Sam Morello, IAB Member, helps judge Senior Projects at UPJ

University of Pittsburgh - Johnstown Electrical and Computer Engineering program invites IAB members to judge senior projects.

The Industry Advisory Board (IAB) was invited to judge and review Senior Projects for the Electrical and Computer Engineering program at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ). Sam Morello, P.E., Principal Engineer of ARM CAMCO and ARM Enertech Associates and IAB member, proudly supports the creative process and original senior projects as one of many ways for upcoming graduates to prepare to function as professionals in their chosen fields.

This year’s top project was the LasIR Harp, a digital system using IR sensors to emulate the music of a harp. It provides people with physical limitations a way to make music as it doesn’t require dexterity in the hands, but only the ability to interrupt the path of a laser.

Not only have ARM CAMCO and ARM EnerTech hired numerous UPJ alumni over the years to add to their business families, Sam’s daughter Samantha is also an IAB member and UPJ alumni, who is employed by Mitsubishi Electric Power Products (MEPPI).

Howard Forrest comes aboard as CAMCO's new Senior Accountant

Please help us welcome Howard Forrest, CAMCO’s new Senior Accountant. He will be based in the Ebensburg office. Howard received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Binghamton University and has recently relocated with his family to Johnstown, PA from North Carolina. Prior to CAMCO, Howard held the position of Manager of Finance and Administration for Polarean, Inc in Durham, NC where he was responsible for the processing and oversight of the day-to-day company financials and took a large role in supporting purchasing, inventory management and NIH grant monitoring. Prior to working at Polarean, he served in the role of Sr. Accountant with NContact Inc/Atricure, Inc in Morrisville, NC, and was also held a position at Anfield, Inc. as the US Controller at in Cary, NC. Due to his extensive accounting experience across a variety of industries over his 20-year career, Howard brings a progressive, comprehensive and innovative approach to his roles as an accounting professional. We are happy to have Howard a part of the team!

Brennen Keating, Electrical Technician, joins CAMCO

CAMCO would like to welcome Brennen Keating as an Electrical Technician to our Ebensburg, PA location. Brennen is completing his educational pursuits at Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center where he gained experience installing breaker boxes with meters, GFI’s, outlets, single pole switches, three- and four-way switches, and acquired power and hand tool knowledge. He also completed OSHA 10 and 30 in addition to NCCER “Core” Construction (Levels 1-3) trainings.

When Brennen isn’t working, he enjoys going to the gym, watching sports, and also playing sports.

Welcome Ryan Salvia, an Electrical Technician who recently joined our Ebensburg, PA location. Ryan holds an Associate in Science Degree, Electronics Engineering Technology from Pittsburgh Technical College. He has knowledge of electronic circuits, systems and applications and is experienced in troubleshooting issues. Most recently, he has been working for Becton Dickinson, in Zelienople, PA as an Electronics Service Technician. Prior to working at Becton Dickinson, he worked at Mine Safety Appliances in Cranberry, PA as an Engineering Technician.

CAMCO helps client with electrical expansion project

A quick turn around helped CAMCO's client late in the expansion project

Recently CAMCO had a steel mill customer who was expanding their site and needed additional electrical service. They were planning on using their existing switchgear lineup yet realized late in the process that they would need to add additional capacity to the switchgear. Fortunately, a CAMCO team member was on site supporting the project and was able to help generate a solution that would add the additional breaker, CTs, relays, meters, lights and switches to an available empty section of the cubicle to properly support the new building.

In one week’s time, the CAMCO shop and field service team finalized the design specifications, located the needed equipment, tested it and applied new settings, built a new panel, and the equipment was installed on site to support the planned schedule.

We appreciate these opportunities to help our customers solve their challenging problems in a timely manner which allows them to continue to grow and to be successful.

John Hatfield transitions from Chief Operating Officer to President

ARM CAMCO LLC (CAMCO) is pleased to announce the promotion of John Hatfield from Chief Operating Officer to President, effective October 17, 2022. John holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from The Ohio State University in Industrial and Systems Engineering and an Executive MBA Certification from the University of Virginia ’s Darden School of Business. John has spent much of his 34-year career with ABB and Westinghouse, progressing from a Sales Engineer to Vice President, Global Process Manager. John possesses extensive knowledge and experience in the electrical equipment business, including two leadership roles within ABB’s Power Grid High Voltage business unit, and more than 10 years in field service and equipment repair shop. Additionally, John brings extensive management and operations experience, along with expertise in logistics, manufacturing, quality control, business strategy, marketing, sales, and financial management. John’s many talents will help ensure that the dedicated CAMCO team continues to provide superior service and quality at a good value to CAMCO’s loyal and highly valued customers.

CAMCO’s Past-President, and long-time President of ARM Enertech Associates (AETA), Sam Morello, P.E., is planning to reduce his hours as he transitions into a Principal Engineer role. Sam will continue to support CAMCO and AETA’s customers to help provide technical solutions to unique and challenging projects. Additionally, Sam plans to continue providing mentoring to the CAMCO and AETA’s 80+ teammates.

Summer Shutdown Maintenance Leads to Emergency Repair

CAMCO was at the right place doing maintenance when issues arose for this steel mill client

During the summer shutdown season, CAMCO was onsite to perform planned maintenance on various equipment at a steel mill. Right before the shutdown, a last-minute request came in as some other items had started giving the customer issues before going into the shutdown. In addition to the equipment maintenance work, during a substation switch, a bus-tie switch failed and arced, shutting down the substation. Because CAMCO was onsite doing maintenance, the customer was able to call the technician down to help diagnose the problem and options to regain power back to the plant. A plan was created, and an overnight emergency repair was made to the bus-tie switches and the plant was back online in 2 days’ time and allowed them to stay on schedule to re-energize. We are grateful to our customers the trust they put in us to keep them running.

CAMCO helps client after a bus duct failure

A few weeks ago, a customer called CAMCO after a bus duct failure created a significant outage at their power plant on a Sunday. By Monday morning, the failed parts had been sent to CAMCO to repair and the team immediately went to work to finding materials (a lot of which was not in stock) to get the customer back online as quickly as possible. In 3 days’ time, CAMCO was able to ship back replacement parts, allowing the customer to install and come back online less than 1 week of the failure. Utilizing superior supply chain partners and having a talented hardworking team, CAMCO was able to help their customer in a challenging time, doing it safely and efficiently.

Component level maintenance was performed for this client to keep its substation, commissioned in 2014, running efficiently and safely

ARM CAMCO just performed component level preventative maintenance & testing of an entire substation in Burnham, PA for Standard Steel. We serviced capacitors, resistors, reactors, PTs, CTs, SF6 Circuit Breakers, and disconnect/grounding switches additionally all insulators, bushings, and housings were cleaned, waxed, and inspected. CAMCO's Sam Morello, P.E. designed and commissioned the substation and Static Var Compensator (SVC) back in 2014 for Standard Steel.

Routine maintenance ensures that your electrical components, critical to your daily operations, continue to operate as designed. This in turn greatly reduces the chances of disruptive outages & safety-related incidents.
